Vatican City

Today we went to the Vatican. We went into the square and toured St. Peter's Basilica.

 

There were elaborate crèches inside and outside the Basilica.

 

 

We climbed hundreds of steps to get to the top of the dome of the Basilica and had a bird's eye view of the Vatican City.

 

We also walked through the Vatican Museum and were amazed at the vast collection of art and artifacts ranging from Greek and Roman antiquities to aboriginal carvings.

We visited the Sistine Chapel, where ten guards constantly remind visitors to be quiet and not to take any photos.

We also ate some works of art, including pizzas, salads, and pasta dishes.

Tomorrow we are getting up at 5 a.m. to take a train to Pompeii. Everyone is excited to make the trip, deity the early hour.
