We made it home on Friday. We were traveling for 24 hours straight. Everyone said they would sleep for at least four days. It was a great trip with a great group.

Bath, Stonehenge, and London

Yesterday (Tuesday) we took a day trip to Bath and Stonehenge. Everyone really liked Bath where little shops and restaurants are tucked in every alley. We enjoyed visiting the Roman bath there, and we all wished we had more time to spend exploring the town.

The bath still has its original lining.
I was impressed by the drains the Romans constructed..

Stonehenge was amazing to see. The circles of tones were put in place 5000 years ago. The smaller stones of the inner circle were transported over a long distance. The site may have been a burials place, a place of worship, or something else altogether. The stones are aligned with the midsummer sunrise and midwinter sunset.

Today we saw Westminster Abbey, the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, and then we split off into a variety of small groups. My group went to the Sherlock Holmes museum, the Charles Dickens House, and then Harrod's department store. Harrod's has everything from restaurants to televisions to crystal to baby clothes.

Later, I met one of my college roommates, Farida, for dinner. We had not seen each other for 15 years, but it was just like old times!

Groups have also been going to many great shows in London, including The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Lion King, Wicked, and more.

London

We arrived in London yesterday (Sunday) and promptly sought out some fish & chips, bangers & mash, and red telephone booths.

Today it was raining and snowing. We took a bus tour and people got off at different points to explore the sights. We saw the tower Bridge, and toured the Tower of London.

We also toured the reconstructed Globe Theatre. It was built with authentic materials, including a thatched roof. There are no productions running in the winter, but we got too see the stage and they are constructing a smaller indoor Jacobean theater that should be open next winter.

Paris in the rain

We walked through Paris in the rain on Saturday. We saw the Eiffel tower and the Arc de Triumph by day and by night. We took pictures from the top of both.

We also saw Notre Dame cathedral.

We even walked by the Moulin Rouge. The neighborhood was quite interesting. We did find a really good pastry shop on the way back to the Metro where we tried everything from strawberry tartes to chocolate filled eclairs to some sort of rolled vanilla cake that Kelsey said was "so good" she couldn't believe it.

In the afternoon, Rachel and I went to the Musee D'Orsy and saw some fabulous works of art by Monet, Manet, Degas, Van Gogh, Gaugin, Touolouse-Lautrec and more. Unfortunately, we could not take any photos inside the museum. The museum has many rooms, and every time we turned a corner we said "Oh, wow!" We could not believe how many paintings we got to see. It was definitely a highlight of the trip for me.

Today (Sunday) we take the Chunnel to London. It will take us less than three hours to get to the other side.

Florence to Paris

We spent Thursday in Florence, Italy, which was quite beautiful. First we went to the Duomo (the Cathedral) and enjoyed the beauty of the outside and the inside of this cathedral.

Florence is also famous for its leather market. Several jackets, boots, belts, bags, and gloves were purchased here. Some students got really good at bargaining for lower prices.

Ashley, Lindsey, Kelsey, and Rachael with their purchases.
We saw several beautiful bridges, including the Ponte Vecchio, the oldest bridge in Florence, which is lined with jewelry stores from end to end.

Today (Friday) we arrived in Paris after another overnight train adventure. We are thankful to be finished with overnight train rides.

We visited the Louvre museum today, walked along the Rue de Rivoli and had a relaxing dinner. Here are a few highlights from the museum:
